IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Burnett
Thomas
September 9, 1932 – January 19, 2021
Charles Burnett Thomas, 88, crossed into the arms of his savior with his children by his side on Tuesday, January 19,2021 in Grapevine, Texas. Burnett was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Justin. He was a good provider for his family. Burnett taught himself how to be a master carpenter and eventually launched his own business building custom homes. While he did build homes in Denton and neighboring counties, he was most proud to say he built 76 homes in old town Justin. Quality homes built to last were Burnett's standard.
Because of his love of hunting and fishing and much to his grandchildren's delight, Burnett built a lake home at Lake Texoma. The family has many happy memories of weekends spent at the lake house. There were lots of fish fries, hearty breakfasts, and game-playing tournaments around the kitchen table. He loved to sit and watch the grandchildren making memories.
Burnett was also one of the original members of the Justin Domino Hall. They always said there was "no gossip" there. However, a lot of "news" came from the domino hall. Their group of men was a very close one, and you could be sure they had each other's backs. They were life-long friends and it was a happy place for Burnett to be.
Many of life's problems were certainly solved around the round table at Mom's Cafe. Burnett and his friends gathered for coffee and daily discussions. Again, he put great value on spending time with his friends.
Burnett was born on September 9, 1932 in Drop,Texas to Lucille Burnett and William Roy Thomas. The Burnetts are a pioneer family to the Drop/Ponder area. On the day Burnett was born, Denton Creek was out of its banks. In order to deliver Burnett, the doctor walked a cable to cross the creek. This was a good thing because Burnett weighed in at 10 pounds!
Burnett attended Ponder High School. He married Geraldine (Jerry) Pope on June 23, 1951. Burnett is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Jerry, and two brothers-in-law, Jesse Reynolds and Clemons Watson. Burnett is survived by his daughter Charla Pepper and son Roy Thomas and wife Cathy, all of Justin, TX. Burnett is also survived by his grandchildren, Christi Simmons and husband Shawn, Kelli Escamilla, Rachel Rangel and husband Moises, and Mikel Thomas and wife Shelley as well as ten great-grandchildren: Hayden, Grace, and Kate Simmons, Molly and Maggie Escamilla, Ella, Isabel, Abigail, and Luciana Rangel, and Sunny Thomas. Finally, Burnett is survived by his two sisters, Roy Lou Reynolds of Justin and Juanita Watson of Benbrook, and brother-in-law Tom Seely of Oklahoma.
No more sorrow, no more pain. We are thankful that our daddy and papaw is no longer suffering. He is at peace with Granny Jerry and the rest of his family and friends.
