Obituary

A. Peter Wisnie, 55, of Richardson, Texas, died unexpectedly and was welcomed into Heaven on the evening of Friday, January 7, and his family finds hope in this truth even as they mourn his absence.

Peter was born to Elizabeth "Betty" Wisnie on July 8, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois.  After graduating high school in Omaha, Nebraska, Peter attended Colorado School of Mines, graduating near the top of his class with a Bachelors of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1988.  He received his MBA at the University of Louisiana in 1993.

While working his first job at Conoco, Pete first discovered his love for cajun food and Lisa Land, who would go on to be his wife of 30 years.  His brilliant and creative mind quickly garnered him respect in his field, and over the next thirty years he and his family moved to Houston, London, Moscow, Luanda, and Dallas.  His successful and exciting career spanned petroleum engineering, oil and gas operations, petrophysics, mergers and acquisitions, deepwater exploration, and wind turbine project management.  Many overseas assignments allowed him to work in countries like Mauritania, Morocco, Equatorial Guinea, and Sao Tome.

It wasn't just his work that Pete gave his whole mind and heart to; it was everything he did.  Whether teaching himself to play bossa nova guitar and jazz piano, climbing the elusive 5.13 rock climbing routes (and showing up climbers half his age), or drilling his list of the 100 most common verbs in Arabic (or Spanish or French or Russian or Portuguese), Peter never did anything halfway.

It was this wholehearted devotion that made Pete such an incredible husband, father, grandfather, son and friend.  As he went about his fascinating life, he collected friends as varied as his interests, and he loved so many so well.   But Peter's family was his greatest joy on earth.  He was quick to tell and show them how much he loved them, always making time for each member of his family and connecting with them and their interests.  Peter is survived by his wife, Lisa, daughter and son-in-law Madie and Tyler Fox, two sons, Holden and Pierce Wisnie, grandchildren Penelope and Jack Fox, and mother-in-law Lynell Land, all of whom he loved fiercely to the end.  He is preceded in death by his mom, Betty Wisnie.

But the deepest passion of Pete's life by far was the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He believed with unwavering conviction that God had saved him and had begun to rescue the whole world.  He wanted nothing more than for all the world to know this great news, and he humbly gave of his time and resources to support countless ministries of The Heights Church, where he and Lisa were members together for almost ten years.  He spoke often and boldly of his faith to all those he loved.

It is the prayer of his family that many would look at Peter's life and glorify the God he served.  You are invited to join the family for a celebration of Peter's life on Friday, January 14, at 1pm at The Heights Church in Richardson, TX (201 W Renner Rd).  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Heights Church missions programs.
