Ada Berniece
Jones
April 15, 1932 – October 15, 2021
Ada Berniece Jones of Port Mansfield, Tx and formally of Argyle, Tx, entered into eternal rest on Friday October 15, 2021. She lived a long Christian life and she peacefully passed away in San Marcos, Tx with her daughter by her side. She was 89 years old. Berniece was born on April 15, 1932 in White County, Tennessee to L.L. Hutchings and Mary Hodge Hutchings (Lowery).
She is survived by her only child, her daughter Marion Jones Bonner and her son-in-law Tim Bonner of San Marcos, TX, her granddaughter Peyton Bonner of Galveston, TX and grandson Brack Bonner of Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by her two sisters Barbra Fuller of Buchanan Dam, TX and Mary Jo Lowery Watson and her husband Jack Watson of Alvarado, TX. She was preceded in death by her brother Landon Hutchings. She was an aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Berniece is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dalton Jones. They married December 12, 1953. They lived in Pecos, TX then they moved to Denton, TX and eventually bought a house and land in Argyle, TX. Berniece owned their home in Argyle for 46 years.
Berniece graduated high school in 1949 from Pecos High School and later when she moved to Denton, while having a fulltime job, she went to night school at North Texas State University. In 1978 she received her Bachelors in Accounting and Insurance. She was the owner of Jones Real Estate and Insurance for several years. While in the Denton area, she worked as the business manager of several car dealerships.
Berniece and Dalton moved to Port Mansfield in 1986. They owned and operated "The Outpost" convenience store and gas station and "Short Stop" liquor store, restaurant and car wash. Most notably people from all over the valley would come to "The Outpost" to watch the Port Mansfield deer being fed at sundown. She was also President of the Port Mansfield Chamber of Commerce for several years and very involved in the Port Mansfield Fishing Tournament.
Berniece was the mama to many dogs and cats, and she loved all animals. She and Marion raised English Bulldogs for 17 years. She loved God, walks on the beach and enjoyed sitting and watching many different species of birds on her bird feeders. She also had a knack for horticulture. In her later years she had 3 large greenhouses where she propagated and raised many plants. She continued to save seeds to plant right up to her last days.
We will have a Memorial to celebrate Berniece's life on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 3pm at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton, TX. Marion looks forward to seeing and visiting with all of Berniece's family and friends at the service.
