IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan Paul
Klingele
February 12, 1937 – June 23, 2025
Alan Klingele, age 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 23, 2025.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 12, 1937, to Ruth and Paul Klingele, the oldest of four children. Alan spent his early childhood in Chicago before moving with his family to Lombard, Illinois, where he grew up alongside his brother James (Pamela) and sisters Janet (Chris) and Marilyn (Bob).
As a child, Alan loved spending summers in Quincy, Illinois, on his aunt and uncle's farms. He loved farm life, playing in South Park, fishing, and hiking around Curtis Creek.
On September 1, 1956, Alan married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Clark. Together they raised a loving family that included sons Mike Klingele (Ann), Mark Klingele (Randee), and Matthew Klingele (Pam); and daughters Maribeth Hoffman and Amy Klingele Garman (Denis).
Alan was a devoted grandfather to Mark Klingele Jr., Mike Hoffman (Megan), Katie Carter (Chris), Leslie Hoffman Dunigan (Chris), Jamie Hoffman, Kyle Klingele (Amy), Maria Klingele, Robert Mahaney III (Jennifer), Delaney Mahaney Cox (Zachary), Quinn Mahaney, and Mallory
Klingele. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Amelia and Eloise Hoffman, Maxwell and Maeve Dunigan, Emerson Cox, Blyth Mahaney, and Amelia Klingele.
For most of his career, Alan worked as an over-the-road truck driver, crisscrossing the country and driving through nearly every state in the continental U.S. He was also an avid golfer and fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Scotland to play the historic St. Andrews course with his
brother and nephews—an experience he considered one of the highlights of his life.
Alan and Shirley began their married life on Edgewood Street in Lombard, Illinois surrounded by other young families. As their family grew, they moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where they created lasting memories with holiday gatherings full of warmth and laughter. After their children had grown, Alan and Shirley relocated to a townhome at Glendale Lakes—right on a golf course—and eventually retired to Ocala, Florida. There, Alan worked part-time as a starter at Pine Oaks Golf Course and continued to enjoy golf, travel, and an active social life. In their later years, they moved to Corinth, Texas to be closer to family.
Alan valued the lifelong friendships he made at Sacred Heart School in Lombard and IC (Immaculate Conception) Catholic High School in Elmhurst. These bonds endured through the years, celebrated with golf outings, weddings, and countless cherished gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley, his son Matthew, and his sister Janet.
Alan was an avid reader and lover of books. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Helen Plum Library at https://www.helenplum.org/give
