James (Alan) Ross, 76, of Denton, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020. He was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on April 26, 1943 to Jimmy and Nell Ross.
Alan graduated from Wichita Falls Sr. High School and earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree from General Motors Institute (now Kettering Institute), Flint, Michigan. He married his high school sweetheart, Jois Elizabeth Martin, in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 16, 1962. Alan's professional career with Buick Motor Division spanned 40 years, when he retired as Assistant Zone Manager for Buick in the Las Colinas office. His career took him to several states and offered him many opportunities to see the country and do many life-changing things.
Alan had a great love for God and served Him daily. He and his beloved wife of 57 years were dedicated members of New Life Church, Robson Ranch, where Alan served as a Trustee of the church, worked on the tech team, and was actively involved in several areas of leadership.
His pastors, Dr. Jim Mann and Jeff Fairchild, will be officiating his service, being held at DeBerry Funeral Home, in Denton on Monday, March 16, 2020 beginning at 10:00 am, with interment following at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in Wichita Falls. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles Forshaw, Carl Klein, Norm Zilinsky, Bill Mathers, Larry Payne, Wayne Seale, Bob Cook, and Roger Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the New Life Church, Children's Ministry Scholarships, 1350 Milam Road East, Sanger, Texas 76266 may be made in his memory. Alan had an eager hunger for learning and was constantly reading to expand his horizons. He was interested in technology, electronics, finance, flying, physics, auto industry, travel, politics, and he explored new subjects of interest each day. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in his classic GMC motor home, and most recently made a lengthy trip through several of the national parks in the west. He enjoyed being challenged and finding solutions.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jois Ross; brother-in-law, Ken Martin and wife Carole; nephews, Kevin Martin, wife Kelli, and son Kolby; Brian Martin, wife Jena, and sons, Cab, Caden and Solomon; Brad Martin, wife Amy, and children, Ellie, Jack and Annie; and nieces, Christi, Debbie, and Kati Kurkjian; an uncle and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Teresa Ann Kurkjian. Alan's sense of humor, boisterous laugh, smiling face, and loving personality will be sorely missed. He made a mark of love and kindness on the hearts of all those he touched. He and his beloved wife exemplified God's ideal marriage with devotion and love
