Albert (Al) Lowell Lookabaugh's Obituary

Albert (Al) Lowell Lookabaugh, 81, of Denton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Methodist Richardson Medical Center after a three-week stay.

Albert was born June 25, 1937, the youngest of six siblings, in Watonga, Oklahoma, to Harry and Edith Lookabaugh.

He attended Greenfield schools, played multiple sports, and graduated as Valedictorian from Greenfield High School in 1955. After graduation from Oklahoma State University in 1959, he served in the US Army for two years at Ft. Carson, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as a 1st Lieutenant. In January 1962, he began to work as a special agent with the FBI.

He met his lovely future bride, Diana Cox, while on assignment in Radford, Virginia, where good friends introduced them. They married on June 13, 1964, and after several moves settled in Thomasville, Georgia, where God blessed them with two children, Sharon Elizabeth and John Albert.

Albert left the FBI in 1966, and began to work with Civil Defense (which became FEMA), transferring to Denton in 1977, where he and Diana have resided ever since. Upon an early retirement from FEMA in 1986, Al served as a consultant in the nuclear power plant industry with ICF until his retirement in 2011.

Albert loved his family, golfing, sports, hunting, fishing, gardening, walking daily, and cooking. His greatest joy was watching his four grandchildren grow up, attending every sporting event or activity of theirs that he could. As a man of deep Christian faith, he was an elder and taught adult Sunday School for many years at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. God used him to lead many to the Lord. In his later years, Al was an elder and member of Glory of Zion Church, where he also taught many Bible classes. His well-worn Bible with its many handwritten notes is a treasure to his children and grandchildren. Albert was an honest, loyal, wise, dependable, and respected man of the utmost integrity. In his last days on earth, he told his wife that he loved Jesus now even more than he ever had.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Edith Lookabaugh, and his brothers Frank, Harry, Roy, and Charles.

Albert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diana of Denton; daughter, Sharon Anderson and son-in-law Erik Anderson of Flower Mound; son, John Lookabaugh and daughter-in-law Leslie Lookabaugh of Coppell; his four grandchildren, Sarah Kate Lookabaugh, Brooks Anderson, Jack Lookabaugh, and Claire Anderson; and his sister Mary Jane Walker of Oklahoma City; sisters-in-law Donna Lookabaugh of Dallas and Clella Lookabaugh of Greenfield, Oklahoma; numerous relatives, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. He will be greatly missed.
