Amelia Doris Arnold Smith passed away on August 1, 2026, and went home to be with her beloved Jesus.
Amelia was born on March 31, 1937, in Denton, Texas, to her loving parents, Erlene and John Arnold. She grew up alongside her five cherished siblings: Darlene Collins, Joyce Allison, Tomie Meadows, Charles Arnold, and Bill Arnold. Charles and Bill preceded her in death.
Amelia was a devoted mother to her four children: Rena Taylor, Dottie Simmel, Tony Smith, and John Glen Smith. Rena, Dottie, and Tony preceded her in death.
She was a loving grandmother to Adam Watkins, Mikel Watkins, Jessica Portillo, Dustin Smith, Amelia Elain and Leah Smith. Dustin preceded her in death. She also treasured her great-grandchildren, Caden Watkins, Chandler Watkins, Sawyer Watkins, Piper Watkins, Amelia Portillo, Lillian Portillo and Liam Swift.
Amelia was an incredible woman who filled the lives of those around her with love, joy, and laughter. Her beautiful smile, deep love for Jesus, joyful spirit, and unforgettable laugh will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Her faith and the happiness she brought to others leave a lasting legacy that will live on through her family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Amelia's life on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at DeBerry Funeral Directors, located at 2025 W. University Drive, Denton, Texas 76201. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Argyle, Texas, where Amelia will be laid to rest near her parents.
Though she will be deeply missed, Amelia's loved ones find comfort in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing in the presence of Jesus.
