Barbara Ann Eskew Murphy was born June 8, 1933 to Robert Pryor and Sybil McJunkin Eskew in Greenville South Carolina. Ann attended the Greenville public schools throughout her education and graduated from Greenville High School. She then attended Furman University in Greenville.

On June 20, 1952 Ann married Raymond Murphy who was stationed at Donaldson Air Force Base, South Carolina. After Raymond completed his tour of duty during the Korean conflict, they moved to Denton where Raymond returned to his job at Moore Business Forms. In January 1960 Raymond accepted a sales position for the company and they moved to Shreveport Louisiana. Later, they relocated to Mobile Alabama, then Houston and lastly Winston-Salem North Carolina where they made their home until her death on November 6, 2013.

While living in Denton, Raymond and Ann were active members of the Asbury Methodist Church.

Ann was an avid walker and belonged to Hanes Mall Walkers Association where she walked 5 to 6 miles each day. Those who walked with Ann were enriched by her conversation because she was a voracious reader who focused on non-fiction biographies and autobiographies about individuals who were in the news. Ann not only loved to read, but she loved to share what she read with others.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Sybil Eskew Sumner and Jean Eskew Pierson. She is survived by her husband Raymond Murphy of Winston-Salem North Carolina, one sister Nancy Eskew from Atlanta Georgia, four nephews and one niece.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors.
