IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annette
Watkins
May 9, 1933 – March 4, 2022
Loretta Annette Watkins, formerly of Denton, Texas, went home to live with the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2022, with her family at her side.
Mrs. Watkins was born to Rogie Newton Martin and Eliza Gertrude Fulmer on May 9, 1933 in Cross Roads, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Rogie G and Harold Martin, and her husband of almost 60 years, George Edwin Watkins. Annette is survived by her daughter, Michelle Annette; her son-in-law, John Edward Lubrano; and three cherished grandchildren: George Martin, Eliza Jean and Virginia Anne, all of Cedar Park, Texas.
Mrs. Watkins attended Pilot Point schools (Go Bearcats!), where she graduated in 1950. Annette was voted Most Beautiful in her high school and was known as a friend to all. After graduating high school, Annette went to work at the City of Denton and remained there for 40 years. While working at City Hall, she was introduced to a young man named George Watkins. After a short courtship, George and Annette were married in Denton on August 19, 1953 with their beloved family, Donald and Joan Sikes Dooley as their witnesses.
Annette and George were active member of the Lions Club International since the early 1960's, where Annette and several of the other wives formed Denton's Lioness Club. When Lion's International opened its charters to women, Annette and the other Lionesses quickly formed the Denton Triangle Lion's Club, where she served in numerous leadership positions over the years. She was an active member up until 2012, when she moved to Cedar Park to be closer to family.
Throughout the years, Annette enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, and sight-seeing with her family. She often volunteered to help with many of Michelle's activities, always balancing the demands of work, service and home with grace. She was always the first in the car to crank up the radio and would often sing along with a car full of teenage girls. She worked tirelessly to make their home a place where everyone felt welcomed. Annette always had a smile and a laugh that would light up the room. You always knew that she was truly tickled when no sound would come out of her mouth, but you could tell she was laughing. Her sharp sense of humor will be missed by her family.
Annette was simply one of the best grandmothers around! She lavished love and attention on all three of her grandchildren in any way she could. She unabashedly spoiled them, claiming that it was her right "as Memaw" to do so. She looked forward to weekly lunch with the girls up until the last few weeks of her life. She always made sure that everyone knew how deeply she loved them.
