Annie Rae Smith, 81, of Denton, Texas passed away on May 16, 2024 in Denton. She was born in Dallas, Texas on November 28, 1942 to Joseph Sitton and Annie Belle (Erwin) Sitton.

The Sitton family moved to Denton when she was 8.  She attended Denton Public schools and graduated from Denton High School in 1961. She attended North Texas State University ( now UNT) and graduated in 1965 with a degree in journalism. Ann worked for the State of Texas Department of Public Safety for over 30 years, first as a clerk, and later as a driver's license examiner.

She met John B Smith in 1963.  The began dating in October of that year and were married on March 27, 1964.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Smith of Denton, sons; Robbie Smith and his wife, Kim of Coventon, Texas, and Danny Smith and his wife, Karen of Lewisville, Texas, sister, Teressa Pierce of Corinth, brother, Larry Sitton of Bloomingdale, Georgia, and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John "J.B." Smith, and her mother and father.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 5 PM until 7 PM at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Singing Oaks Church of Christ, Denton, Texas. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
