Obituary

AR Smith, 91 of Northlake, Texas passed away on September 10, 2023. He was born in Elmo, Texas on July 24, 1932, to Alvis and Mattie Smith.

His friends knew him as Al or A.R., his boys knew him as Dad, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew him as Paw Paw and his nieces and nephews called him Uncle Sonny.  Al worked for the BNSF Railroad for 44 years before retiring to play dominoes, farm, and ranch, and spend time with Mary, his wife of 71 years.  Al loved all sports. He played football, basketball, and baseball at Keller in his high school days. He had hoped to witness the Texas Rangers win the World Series before leaving but that wasn't to be. Al had 9 grandchildren & many great-grandchildren of which he loved tremendously.

He is survived by his sons, Bruce Eddy Smith and his wife, Sherry of Marble Falls, Texas, Jimmy Dale Smith and his wife Sandra, of Northlake, Texas, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Smith, his son, Roger Lee Smith, his mother and father, and sisters, Mary Dell Beck and Marjorie Ann Pate.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 18, 2023, from 10:00 - 11:30 AM at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. A graveside service will follow at Bourland Cemetery in Keller, Texas at 12:00 PM.
