Archibald Wesley "A.W." Hursey, Jr., passed away on October 7, 2017. He was born on September 19, 1933 in Conway, South Carolina to Archibald and Shellie Mae Hursey, the eldest brother to Bernice S and Michael T Hursey.

A.W. graduated State High School in Conway in 1951. He attended the Medical College of South Carolina School of Pharmacy, graduating in June of 1955. His eldest daughter, Sherry, was born to him and his first wife, Jacquolene, in Rutherfordton, North Carolina while A.W. was working as a pharmacist and preparing to go to Medical School.  His second daughter, Cami, was born in Charleston while A.W. was attending the Medical College of South Carolina, which he graduated in 1962.

While in Charleston, A.W. became a member of the Masonic Temple. He completed his residency for Family Practice in Columbia, SC at the Columbia Hospital.  Upon completion, A.W. enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a Captain and Flight Surgeon.  After a brief stint in Alaska, A.W. was stationed in Saigon during the Vietnam War.  He treasured that experience for the rest of his life. Upon returning to Shaw Air Force Base, he moved his family to Sumter, South Carolina and began a family practice while continuing as a reservist in the Air Force.

He and Jacquolene soon divorced, and a few years later A.W. met the love of his life, Ann David of Kingstree, with whom he would share the next fifty-one years. Daughters Laura Ann and Kristina were born in Sumter, where the family resided until 1987 when A.W. became Southeast Medical Director of Olin Corporation and they moved to Lake Charles, LA.  He and Ann returned to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina in 1997.  Board certified in four different types of medicine, he found great joy in the study and practice of medicine until one year before his passing.

He is survived by his wife, daughters and seven grandchildren. A lifelong student, loving father and husband and a devoted Christian, A.W. will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Saint David Episcopal Church, 623 Ector St. Denton, Texas 76201.
