Arveta "Art" Mason Shields passed away in Pilot Point, Texas, on July 29, 2022. She was born in Denton, Texas, on June 6, 1943, to Willard and Mary Evelyn Mason. Art was dedicated to her lifelong work in senior care. She loved exploring and traveling the world, from walking in the footsteps of Jesus in the holy land to sailing the fjords of Norway. She treasured reading the bible, poetry, and great literature. She liked old westerns and the original classic movies. She cherished meeting and visiting with people, yet her weekly respite was spending quiet time with family and beloved friends. She adored being with her dogs. She was active in the church and her community throughout her life. Art continued working in senior care and serving others until her final weeks. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Royce Mason.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Denton.

Art is survived by her husband David Shields, sister Rochell Beauchamp and husband Sandy, Her brother Clial (Bud) Mason and wife Pat, and her Aunt Nina Crow and numerous cousins. She is also survived by nieces Robin Kniatt, Rena Whatley, Angela Odom, Cynthia Biggs, Melinda Schuck, Tara Judd Longley, and Paige Smith. Her nephews include Robert Beauchamp and Ronald Beauchamp. In addition, Art had 28 great-nieces and nephews, 30 great-great nieces and nephews, and 7 great-great-great nieces and nephews.
