Audrey Lea Green
"She flew away"

Audrey "Mema" Green gained her wings on October 16, 2025, surrounded by love. She was born on April 18, 1940, in Abilene, TX, to Thomas and Mini Brinkley, the youngest of nine children. As a young girl, Audrey moved with her family to Gainesville, TX, where her parents worked hard to provide — her mother picking cotton and her father crafting willow furniture to sell on weekends. In the late 1950s, Audrey moved to Carrollton, TX, with her sister, where fate soon brought her Arthur. While working as a carhop at a drive-in diner, she met a suave and persistent customer, Arthur Green, who, after only three weeks of courtship, asked her to be his wife. On September 7, 1960, they were married in Farmers Branch, TX, beginning a life together.

In the 1960s, Audrey and Arthur settled in Lake Dallas, TX, before planting roots in Corinth, TX, where they raised their three children — Mike, Joyce Renee, and Kevin. Audrey devoted her life to family but also worked at Jesuit Montserrat Retreat House in Lake Dallas, where she managed the housekeeping department and built lifelong friendships.

Audrey had a gift for creating beauty in everyday life. A master crafter, she delighted in making and giving away her custom birdhouses to friends and family. She was also an avid video gamer, a passion she proudly passed down to her children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren.

Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, and no invitation was ever needed. The coffee pot was always ready, laughter filled the rooms, and all who visited left feeling like family. She especially cherished surprise visits from her grandchildren. Friday nights were set aside just for them. One week for the granddaughters, the next for her grandson, each stay made special with treats, prizes, and Audrey's loving attention.

On weekends, Audrey loved treasure hunting at garage sales, flea markets, and antique shops. She had a special way of turning her finds into gifts that her grandchildren adored. She also treasured one-on-one days with them, whether it was fishing with her grandson, taking him to a movie and to eat Chinese food, or teaching her granddaughters the joy of a good bargain over happy meals.

Family was everything to Audrey. She never missed a birthday, ball game, choir concert, dance recital, piano performance, award ceremony, or graduation. On holidays, she could always be found in the kitchen, buzzing with energy as she prepared a feast for those she loved most.

Audrey is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Renee) and husband Darren Brown of Corinth, TX; grandson Michael and wife Lisa Green of Sanger, TX; four granddaughters — Lauren and husband Tim Heffner of Gainesville, TX, Courtney and husband Jason Lomax of Hickory Creek, TX, Adrienne and husband Justin Russell of Boyd, TX, and Alyssa and husband Sam Jacques of Denton, TX; and two precious great-granddaughters, Audrey and Rosalie. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Nettie, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends who held a special place in her heart.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur Green, her sons Kevin Green and Mike Green, her daughter-in-law Renee Green, her parents Thomas and Mini Brinkley, her in-laws Edna and Walter Hunter, and all of her brothers and sisters.

Audrey's legacy is one of love, laughter, family, and faith. She touched countless lives with her kindness, creativity, and generosity. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
