Avis Hall passed away peacefully at her home on February 21, 2017 at the age of 104. She was born January 12, 1913 in Jarrell, Texas to Lalon Holt and Guy G. Moran and was the second child of eight.
She graduated from Salado High School and in 1940 graduated from The University of Texas with a BS in Home Economics. Upon graduating she worked for The Department of Agriculture as a Home Management Supervisor for the Farm Security Administration, in Fannin County and transferred to Denton County in 1941.
She met and married C.C. Hall in Denton on June 27, 1942. She continued to work for the Dept. of Agriculture until the Home Management program lost funding. She did graduate work at TWU and the University of Iowa and in 1950 she earned a Master of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of North Texas and was hired as an instructor in the School of Home Economics. She continued teaching until 1978 and retired as the chairman of the Clothing and Textiles Department. While at the university she served on the Tenure Committee, The Tenure Review Committee, The Curriculum Committee, and the Faculty Senate. She also served on the committee which formulated the university's first tenure policy.
Upon her retirement she kept herself busy with numerous organizations. She has been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1942 and a member of the United Methodist Women, and the quilting group. She was a life member of the Eastern Star of Denton, The Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a member of the Shakespeare Club, the Shakespeare Forum of the Arial Club, the women of N.T. and the Needlecraft Club, the greater Denton Arts Council, and the American Association of Retired Persons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and her husband.
She is survived by sons Terry C. Hall and wife Lynda Akin Hall, Harry G. Hall and wife Barbara Harpool Hall, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, February 24, 2017 at Deberry Funeral Home, 2025 West University Drive, Denton, Texas.
