Obituary

Barbara Jean Coe passed away at her home on Sunday, October 10, 2021. She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on March 1, 1938. Barbara was an amazing woman, wonderful wife, and beloved professor.

She earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. She went on to earn a master's degree in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Northwestern University, where she was the first woman to be awarded such an honor. Her professional career included teaching at Texas A&M University - where she was the first woman to teach in the Mays Business School -  as well as New York University (NYU) and the University of North Texas. She was honored at all three universities with the distinguished "Great Teacher Award." Barbara was also recognized as an "Outstanding Young Woman of the Year" in New York City in 1975. While teaching, Barbara also consulted in the field of marketing and advertising with several fortune 500 companies.

Community service was very important to Barbara; she spent time serving at the Denton County Humane Society and the Denton Christian Pre-School. Barbara enjoyed fostering and adopting local dogs (over 30 in total), traveling the world, and spending summers in upstate New York.

Barbara is survived by her husband Teddy, her sister-in-law Norma, and many admiring nieces and nephews.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents.
