Obituary

Barbara Ann Hunter, 78, of Denton, Texas, passed away at her home on June 24, 2023. She was surrounded by all of her children, who loved her very much.

The daughter of Henrietta Thomas, Barbara Ann, was born on May 31, 1945, in Dallas, Texas. She left Dallas at a young age and moved to New York with her older brother Ray where she attended Catholic school. At the age of 15, she moved back to Dallas. She talked about how much she loved Texas weather. She did not like the cold of New York and was very happy to move back to Texas, which she considered her home. She loved sitting outside in the shade during summer, listening to her favorite music, and enjoying the breeze.

Barbara was widowed twice. She married Clinton Morris in the early sixties and had four children:  Clintona Denise, LaBarbara Ann, Clinton Lee, and Sharon Lynn. She would later marry Kennieth Melvin Hunter and have two more children: Kennisha Melene and Kennieth Melvin.

Barbara loved to learn and help others. Barbara attended and graduated from nursing school, building a lifelong career at the Denton state school, and was a highly respected private nurse. Barbara was full of life. She enjoyed traveling the world.  Spending time with her family and dancing brought great joy to Barbara.

A fond memory that we all cherish and would like to share happened last November when Barbara attended her youngest son's wedding.  She danced in celebration with family and friends.  She was so passionate about spending time with her family. Her smile and her laugh on that night reflected the 78 years of her beautiful life.  While we danced with her, the light in her eyes revealed an immense joy that could not be missed by anyone in the room. Barbara was truly the matriarch of our family and it was clear to all. She will be missed.

Barbara is survived by her four daughters, Clintona Powe of Sanger, Texas, LaBarbara Franklin of Sanger, Texas, Sharon Morris Wilson of Irving, Texas, Kennisha Hunter Morgan and her spouse, Jennifer Morgan of Denton, Texas; two sons, Clinton Morris and spouse, Petra of Germany, Kennieth Hunter and spouse, Troy O'Neil-Hunter of Chicago, Illinois, and brother, Charles Thompson of Denton, Texas, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Clinton Morris, her second husband, Kennieth Hunter, her mother, Henrietta Thomas, and brothers Robert Northington, Ray Wilson, Johnny Woods, and Vandoyl Thomas, sister, Beatrice Woods, and her grandchild Juan Armando Rolon.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 9 AM until 11 AM in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 AM in the Chapel. Internment will follow at TBD.
