Obituary

Barbara Harris Laird of Krum, Texas, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2022 after a 4 year battle with Dementia/Alzheimer's.

Barbara was born to the late Owen H. and Marie Warren Harris, in Mt. Pleasant, TX on February 21, 1940.

She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1958 where she met the love of her life, Clifton Laird.  She was the head cheerleader, and her love, Clifton, was the quarterback of their High School football team.   They were married on April 16,1960 in Mount Pleasant, TX.   They had one child, Julie, who was born deaf and they raised her with patience, discipline, and humility.

She was also a HUGE Texas A&M fan.  She loved to watch sports.

She worked several places before retiring from Halliburton after 17 years in Carrollton, Texas in 2007.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Julie and husband, Oscar Matthews of Krum; her only granddaughter, Joshlyn, who was her pride and joy.   Sister:  Ona Brantley and husband Bob of Knoxville, Tennessee; Stepsister:  Carol Ann Coughlin and husband Tom of Dallas; Brother-in-law, Charles Laird and his wife, Chris of Irving; Sister-in-law, Doris Inman of Pilot Point; 4 nieces and 4 nephews; numerous of great nieces and nephews; and some loving friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Clifton Laird; her parents; her stepmother, Jewel Harris; her infant brother, Gerald Harris; her sister, Montrecia and husband James "Buddy" Carroll.

Viewing:  9:30 –11:00 am on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton.

A graveside service will be at the Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Tx at 11:15 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to: New Life Church Denton Youth Mission Trip.  Oscar and Joshlyn Matthews are a part of the Youth Group.  This will help the Youth Group go on this mission trip in June 2022 to learn how to serve others in need.  Please make checks payable to New Life Church Denton and specify in memo: "For Youth Mission trip" and send the check to Oscar Matthews at 9168 Breezy Rd. Krum, TX 76249, so that we will acknowledge your donations in memory of Barbara Harris Laird.
