Obituary

Ben Sims Peek Jr., passed away in Denton, Texas on Sunday, October 19, 2025. He was born in Waco, Texas on January 11, 1931 to Ben S Peek and Annie Robbins Peek. He attended public schools in Waco and graduated from Baylor University in 1953 with a BA degree in Journalism. He worked for the Waco News Tribune for two years while attending Baylor.  He remained an ardent supporter of the Baylor Bears.

Ben served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. Following his service in the Army, he went to work for Shell Oil Company in Houston. Most of his 29 years in Shell were spent in corporate recruiting, which handled college recruiting for all of Shell. Ben described it as a positive experience.

In 1960, Ben married Janie Hanapel. They met in Houston, although uniquely, they were both from Waco. They lived in Houston, League City, Kerrville, and Denton. They made many fantastic friends in League City, where they raised their family and were involved in St. Mary's Catholic Church, most especially St. Mary's Bazaar.

Ben and Janie moved to Kerrville in 1984. Ben sold real estate in Kerrville for 16 years and met "a lot of fine people' while doing so. He enjoyed that experience very much.

Ben and Janie enjoyed camping and particularly loved to sit around a campfire with friends. They met lots of great people during their 25 years RVing. Ben also enjoyed Texas history, family history, genealogy and gardening.

Ben is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janie, his daughter Sandra Ashmore and her husband Scott of Katy, his son Ed Peek and his wife Darcy of Colleyville, and four grandchildren; Chris Ashmore, Jackie Ashmore, Lauren Peek Dagley and Ashley Peek.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob Peek and his sister Annie Lula Peek.

Services will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Argyle on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Rosary will begin at 9:30AM followed by a mass at 10:00AM. Ben will be laid to rest at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
