Obituary

Benny Ray Dabney loving Husband, Father, PaPa, and friend passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2022, at 63 years of age.

He was born in Dallas, Texas to James and Loneta Dabney on May 6,1959. Benny grew up and spent most of his life in Justin, Texas where he met and married Connie, his High School sweetheart and love of his life for 45 years. They had two children, Blane and Myka. Benny started work as a Tile Contractor with his father at a young age and continued the Family Business for 30+ yrs. He was a man of many talents and skills and put them to good use throughout his life building anything he put his mind to which was always extraordinary. Friends and family often called on his "MacGyver" skills to get the job done and he was always there for them and loved being their go to guy. When his body told him it was time to put down the Trowel, he turned his Lifelong passion of fishing into the next adventure and Benny's Crappie Guide Service was born. Often referred to as "THE" Benny Dabney he was known across the North Texas Fishing community both for his Guiding abilities and his one-of-a-kind infectious humor that was unforgettable. Benny never met a stranger and if you were lucky enough to make his acquaintance, you walked away a friend. Benny enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life and went at them all full force. The man loved a challenge and once met it, was on to the next hobby… and the next….and the next. If you know, you know! Benny played hard and loved hard, once you had his heart he never let go. Above all others, his greatest pride and joys were his four grandchildren, Dewey, Amber, Graysen, and Ian.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jan Ferguson, sister Bobbie Landress, brother-in-law Arnie Kallio, and his father-in-law Jerry Pockrus. He is survived by his wife Connie Dabney and his son Blane Dabney (Angela), daughter Myka Koelzer, his grandchildren Amber Dabney, Ian Dabney, Dewey Koelzer, Graysen Koelzer, Philip Koelzer, father of his grandsons. His sisters Terry Huebner (Ed), Sherrill Krahula (Don), Mother-in-law Drue Pockrus, Brother-in-laws Jerry Pockrus Jr., Billy Jack Pockrus (Penny), Jerry Landress. Nieces Karman Hendricks, Kymber Chapman, Rhonda Landress, Dixie Furlong, Jessica Sprayberry, and nephew James Krahula. Along with countless, loved extended family and friends.

Benny's antics were legendary and those who knew and loved him have their own memories and stories to tell. Nobody could perk up a room like Benny Dabney. If you spent any time with Benny, you walked away with a smile on your face.

In his true spirit, a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
