Obituary

Bernice Collett gained her heavenly wings and was welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 19, 2023 in Denton, Texas at the precious age of 91.  After a courageous battle, she was surrounded by loved ones who will continue her legacy by living their lives in her honor, replicating all that she stood for.

Bernice was born on March 11, 1932 in Sanger, Texas to Benjamin F. and Annie Kay (Grundy) Lynch. On January 26, 1950, she married the love of her life, John Sterling Collett in Sanger. She attended Sanger schools. After working in various occupations, she and her husband John owned and operated a semi-truck contracted to Acme Brick Company. Bernice then worked for Denton, Krum and Sanger ISDs until her retirement.

Bernice had so much pride and found an enormous amount of joy in her family. She was by far the strongest woman and was definitely the rock of her entire family. Throughout her years, she earned the privilege of many names, Sis, Sister, Bern, Honey, Aunt, Mom, Memaw, Mamaw, MalMal, Sug, and then as Mo. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan but more importantly she was the biggest cheerleader to all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's sports teams. Bernice loved gardening and enjoyed the bright, colorful flowers. She also loved baking. She was so well known for her homemade biscuits, pies, cookies and candy.

In addition to her husband, John, Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, son, James Lee Collett, brother, James D. Lynch and sisters, Shirley Turner, Mattie Jonsson and Mary Liu.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Anna Koiner (Gary) of Denton, Texas, Alice VanBaale (Joe) of Savoy, Texas, Teresa Carter of Denton and Christena Galaviz (Martin) of Gainesville, Texas. Brothers, Raymond Lynch, Benny Lynch, and Glenn Lynch all of Fort Worth, and Melvin Lynch of Colorado. Sisters, Nellie Baker of Fort Worth, Roberta Coy (Lynn Dee) of Macon, Missouri, Glenda Rayburn of Arthur City, and Bettye Sutphin (Len) of Dublin, Virginia. She had 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Too, she had numerous nieces and nephews.
