IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bess
Miller
January 24, 1931 – January 31, 2021
Mary Bess Miller was celebrated into Heaven on 01/31/2021 and reunited with her husband Allie, just after her 90 th birthday. Her passing was not COVID 19 related. She was born in Corsicana TX to L.G. "Pop" and Jeanette "Janie" Stevenson. She married Allie I. Miller in 1956, when she began serving as his bookkeeper in the insurance and real estate business. She graduated from Denton High in 1948, attended UNT (then known as North Texas State Teachers College), then in 1980 she attended the Northlakes Police Academy at age 49.
She had many accomplishments, including being the President of the Denton Opti-Mrs. and the first female Lieutenant in the history of the Denton County Sheriff's Department, under Sheriff Kenneth George. She enjoyed many years of playing cards with different groups. Her most recent card group was active for 14 years- good friends John, Shirley and Oleta. She also enjoyed Denton Community Theater season tickets, eating out and traveling with friends- some she had since elementary and high school. She worked (at 14 years of age) at McCrory's 5¢ & 10¢ Store in Denton, then Chance Vought Aircraft, King's Radio & Electric, then after her kids were grown, both as a Reserve then full time Deputy with the Denton Sheriff. She was a member of Gateway United Baptist Church but also enjoyed Denton Bible Church and Benchmark Bible Church, all in Denton. She and Allie were generous to many charities over the years. While Allie was alive they traveled widely and especially cruises. They were Dallas Cowboy fans from the beginning with season tickets for many years at the Cotton Bowl. However, her greatest joy was her family, who miss her with all their hearts already.
Bess is preceded in death by her parents, husband Allie I. Miller, sister Marcella "Mark" Goode (husband George), brothers Buddy Stevenson (wife Pat) and Ted Stevenson, and mother-in-law Norman Miller.
She is survived by daughter Dana Miller (husband Denis Canuel), son Chad Miller (wife Sherri); granddaughters Courtney Teague (husband Elliot), Casey Ferguson (husband James); and great grandsons Jason Teague, Camden and Clayton Ferguson;
