Obituary

On Thursday, July 14 th , Betty Detrick peacefully passed away after experiencing extreme trauma associated with a fall.

Betty was born in Sandusky County, Ohio, on November 6, 1930.  She lived in Clyde, Ohio, with her parents Leland and Adah Hatton and her brother Delmar Hatton. Betty graduated from Clyde Ohio High School, followed by graduation from the Ohio State University School of Nursing as a member of Sigma Theta Tau (nursing honorary).  Following graduation Betty worked in medical/surgical, premature nursery, and elder health care positions.

Betty had resided at Denton 's Good Samaritan Village where she participated on the Resident Council.  She and her husband, Paul, moved into "Good Sam" in 2000 and have loved the community with its activities, support, and wonderful friends.    She was a member of First United Methodist Church Denton, participating in their Bungalow Sunday School class.  Paul preceded her in death in 2004.   Her father (Leland Hatton), mother (Adah Hatton), brother (Delmar Hatton), and grandson (David C. Lohss) also preceded her in death.

Betty and Paul were avid Ohio State fans. On fall weekends one often could see them sitting in front of the TV watching the football game.  Betty's love for the Buckeyes continued throughout her lifetime. We all knew not to call her during an OSU game (football or basketball) or we'd have little conversation.  Just one step into her apartment showed her love for the Buckeyes: from the stuffed Brutus and OSU blanket on her bed, to her Buckeye cookie jar, to the OSU poster depicting The Horseshoe on her wall over her bed.   Betty loved travelling as well.  She and Paul had a goal to visit all 50 states…. Paul made 48 but Betty added Alaska and Hawaii after he passed away.  She also travelled to Scotland and Ireland.

In addition to her love for OSU, Betty dearly loved her family.  Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all had a special place in her heart.   Nothing made her happier than to see them together and enjoying one another's company. Holidays often were special as the family gathered from Texas and Indiana to celebrate together.

Finally, Betty had a special place in her heart for her friends.  She continued her relationship with friends from Columbus, Ohio, and greatly cherished her friends within the Denton community, especially those at Good Sam and in her Bungalow Sunday School group.  Her love for the Lord was expressed daily in the relationships she had with her friends and her family – always caring for them and wishing them well.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Paula Lohss (D Brian) and Karen Welch (Matthew), and son Larry Detrick (Tish) as well as five grandchildren (Ryan Detrick, Heather Detrick, Amy Lohss Vaal, Jacob Welch, and Luke Welch) and two great-grandchildren (Catherine Lohss and Cameron Vaal). Also surviving are niece Dana Lyn Hunley and nephew Jon Hatton.
