IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Jean
Hustead
January 10, 1935 – November 5, 2020
Betty Jean (Smith) Hustead, 85, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2020, in Denton, TX. She was born in Drumright, Oklahoma, to Woodrow and Lorretta Smith. She was married in Crane, Texas, to her beloved husband, Earl Hustead, in January 1953, who preceded her in death in 2011. Other cherished loved ones to precede her in death, were her adored dog Mayc, her parents Woodrow & Lorretta, her brother and wife, Donald & Valencia Smith, and sister and husband, LaDonna & Virgil Lyons.
She was known as Mom, Betty, Betty Jean, and to many as Betty Mammaw. Betty was an avid shopper and she treasured family gatherings. She made many homemade gifts with her talent for knitting and crochet. Betty loved Christmas. It would not be a surprise to drive by in October and see her Christmas tree and village already up through the window. Thankfully Betty shares her love of Christmas with her daughter, grand-daughter, and great grand-daughter, who plan to carry on the tradition. If you have ever received a card from Betty, you always got a stick of her spearmint gum. Betty and Earl attend college later in life at Rhema Bible Training Center from 1988-1989, where she received her diploma for completion of the Ministerial Training Course. Following college, she taught at Wheeler Christian Academy in Wheeler, TX. Betty and Earl were called to ministry at the Wheeler Nursing Home, where they held weekly song and devotion services. Betty taught herself to play the piano to play for worship service at Heald Church and Wheeler Christian Center. Betty had a heart to serve and ministered through singing and piano. She loved hymns and among her many favorites was, "When we all get to Heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be, When we all see Jesus, We will sing and shout the victory".
Betty is survived by her brother and wife Jimmy & Patricia Smith; daughter and husband, Loyce & Eddie Masten, son and wife, Steve & Edda Hustead; her grandchildren and their spouses, John & Heidi Parker, Lisa Grooms, Lacy & Jesse Love, Aaron & Stephanie Parker, Adam & Christie Parker, Steven Hustead, Donald & Kelly Masten, Sandra & Arlen Dirks, Debbie Masten; her 7 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alyssa, Brigid, Neva, Ian, Dillion Zander; plus many nieces and nephews. All of these she loved dearly. The family would like to thank the staff of Cottonwood Nursing & Rehabilitation and Hospice Plus. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to a charity she was deeply devoted to, the Pleasant Hills Children's Home. Please mail donations to Pleasant Hills Children's Home, P.O. Box 1177, Fairfield, TX 75840.
