Obituary

Betty Lee Gage, 88, of Denton, was called home to heaven on June 18 at Sterling House in Denton after a short illness.

She was born July 7, 1925 in Harlan, Iowa to George and Maude Wilder. She graduated from UNT in 1947 with a Fine Arts degree and married Victor Ray Gage (deceased 2003) on January 11, 1947.

Her career began at Moore Business Forms in the art department. In 1959, she became the graphic artist at FEMA. She is remembered for her community shelter plans and creative presentation brochures. She retired from FEMA in 1985.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great children. She loved to cook, sew and entertain. In her later years she enjoyed playing card games, working puzzles, and singing.

She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Vic, her parents, her two sisters, three brothers and their spouses.

Those left to tell stories and cherished memories are her two daughters; Vicki Laws and David Brown; Cathy and Alan Nelson, both of Denton, Grandchildren; Scott and Kimberly Nelson and their boys Andrew and Austin, of Frisco, Shelley and Chad Rakestraw and their daughters Madison, Kamryn, Brooklyn and Katelyn, of Flower Mound; many nieces, nephews and dear friends from First Baptist church, The Vintage and Sterling House.

There will be a visitation on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 1pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors with a service celebrating her life immediately following at 2pm, 2025 West University Drive, Denton, TX. Dr. Jeff Williams and the Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CureSearch for Children's Cancer, in honor of Betty's great granddaughter who is a cancer survivor.
