Obituary

Betty S. Mullendore was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 1, 1936 and passed on to Heaven June 16, 2024 in Denton, Texas.

Betty was born in and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Russell and Mary Sue Benner and had one sibling, Nancy. In 1954, she graduated from Will Rodgers High School. She attended The University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Betty had a long and successful career as an executive assistant with the majority her time spent at Searle Laboratories in Denton, then Las Colinas.

Betty married her high school sweetheart, Robert G. Mullendore, on June 6, 1957 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They had two children, Cathy and Bobby. Betty was a devoted stay-at-home mother until her children were on their own. She had a lifelong love of animals and never had a home without pets. She gave generously to charities benefiting animals. She loved beaches and oceans and delighted in vacations where she would walk the beaches in search of seashells, evident by the thousands of shells she had decorating her home. She loved traveling the world with her family. Her favorite destination was Hawaii and second was Sanibel Island, Florida. Betty and Nancy's parents began a family tradition of going to Sanibel Island with them for many years. In their parents' honor, Betty and Nancy continued going to Sanibel after their parents were unable to travel.

Betty had a green thumb and loved gardening. She always had an extensive variety of unique flowers and plants surrounding her home. Her backyards were always an amazing experience. Her family believes she delighted the most when we and friends would visit and tell her they felt as if they were visiting an island in paradise.

Betty is survived by her sister, Nancy Benner; son, Bobby Mullendore and daughter-in-law, Robyn Cloutier Mullendore; her grandchildren, Jerrod Jenkins, Jamie Jenkins Perkins, Jeff Jenkins and Emily Mullendore; great- grandchildren, Jackson Jenkins and Nora Jenkins.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Mary Sue Benner; husband, Robert G. Mullendore; and daughter, Cathy Mullendore Jenkins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 24, 2024 at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors of Denton with a visitation one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM. Burial service will be held afterwards at Roselawn Memorial Park.
