Betty J. Piraino Durbin's Obituary

Betty J. Piraino Durbin, 92, passed away on November 1, 2018 in Denton, TX after a life of great love and a courageous 7-year battle with Alzheimer's.  She was surrounded by her loving family throughout the years of her disease, and during her final transition to dancing with the Angels.

Betty was born to Italian immigrant parents -- Mary Ann and Bruno.  The family settled in Illinois, and it was there that she met the love of her life, Edward L. Durbin, to whom she was married for 74 years.  Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and having them all together in her home singing, dancing and celebrating life.  Growing up with her as a wife, mom, or grandmother meant always being greeted with her beautiful smile, hugs and unconditional love, homemade Italian food, chocolate chip cookies, and gifts of oil paintings or Afghans specially designed with her love for just you.  She was a woman of great strength and peaceful silence– one who never tired taking care of others or preparing her home for her family's enjoyment, and one whose words were few but whose smile was rich in her humble expectations to enjoy and love those blessed with being hers. Betty's love of her family; kind and peaceful spirit; joy of music, dancing, painting, flowers, quilting, and simple moments of life will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Mary Ann and Bruno, brother Vincent, and her youngest son Rick.  She is survived by her husband Edward; her children Mike, Scott and wife Won, Kristine and husband Paul, Cynthia (Susie), Kelly and wife Mary, and Rick's wife Jenni; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sister Helen; numerous nieces and nephews; and many cousins and relatives in Italy.

The family wishes to thank Betty's caregivers from Meals on Wheels, Audra's Angels, VNA Hospice, Carestaff, and many friends for their support and gentle care of both Betty and her family throughout her illness.

Visitation, vigil service, and Rosary will be held in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Home on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Betty's funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Denton.  Committal services will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.

In memory of Betty, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.org; or to the Monsignor King Outreach Center in Denton, TX.
