Obituary

Beverley Rich Hinely died in Denton on Saturday, May 12, surrounded by her family.

Beverley was born September 25, 1932, in Fort Worth to Preston Rich and Martha Holmes. She attended Texas Wesleyan College and married Reginald Terry Hinely in 1952. Their son Terry was born the following year, and their daughter Susan two years later, all in Fort Worth. The Hinelys settled in Denton in 1962, and their son Donal was born the following year.

For the next 45 years, Beverley was a tireless, indispensable and spirited worker for countless good causes in our community, especially as a member of the First United Methodist Church. She served at various times as President, Treasurer, and Secretary of the United Methodist Women. In 1968, she and other women in the church organized the first "Taste-In", an annual fund-raiser named in keeping with the political and cultural spirit of the times that grew to be a major event in the community for the next 37 years. Beverley was also involved with the foundation of the Denton Christian Pre-School in 1970 and for many years rode the DCP bus, assisting the children on their way to and from school. Beverley and Reg were active volunteers for the Methodist Youth Fellowship and for the Credo Choir, especially in its foundational years. In 1983, Beverley became the administrative assistant at the University Ministries Center on the North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) campus. For the next fifteen years, she not only ran the Center, but also provided counsel, support and good cheer for 100s of North Texas students.

Beverley had a wide but tightly woven web of friends, all of whom will never forget her generosity, loyalty, humor, and astonishing energy. First and always, Beverley was a mother who lovingly raised Terry, Susan and Donal, and in so doing provided a model for each of them, as well as an indispensable helpmate, in the raising of their own children, Kelsi, Eva, Veronica, Madeleine, Martin and Fergus. Finally, Beverley and Reg, through almost 60 years of marriage, showed us all the power and beauty of love.

In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Beverley is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Heather, Karen and Philippe, by her brother and sister, Bob and Carolyn, and by her nieces and nephews Julie, Eddie, Denise, Karlene, Jacque, Jon, Karl, Ted, Todd, Lisa and Mark.

A celebration of Beverley's life will be held on Tuesday, May 15, at 1 pm at Cole Chapel, First United Methodist Church, Denton. In lieu of flowers and in memorium, contributions may be made to United Methodist Women, FUMC, 201 S. Locust St., Denton, TX, 76201 (http://fumc-denton.com/). Checks should be made out to First United Methodist Church; in the memo line please write "Beverley Hinely Memorial".
