Obituary

Billy Bruce Dareing, 90, formerly of Valley View, Texas passed away on April 10, 2024 in College Station, Texas. He was born in Durham, Arkansas on July 19, 1933 to Bennie and Hazel Dareing.


Born in a cabin in the Ozarks he grew up in Arkansas, Missouri, and finally Oklahoma where he graduated from the High School in Miami Oklahoma in 1951. Growing up Bill and his brothers Don and Joe, the "Dareing Brothers", were well known in the northeastern Oklahoma area playing and singing gospel and bluegrass for churches, revivals as well as having their own radio show. Also while in Oklahoma, he pitched for various county baseball teams.

He attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami and Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 he earned a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1965.

He retired from Halliburton Company after 38 years of service. His professional career included 15 years of international service living in England and Scotland with his family. During his tie with Halliburton he travelled extensively throughout the world. He was an officer in one of Halliburton Subsidiaries and served on the Board of Directors for four Halliburton International Companies. After retiring from Halliburton he started a small cattle ranch outside of Valley View Texas.

During his time overseas he and his family helped start over ten churches serving as a Deacan, Music Director, and preaching when needed. His church service continued after returning to the United States and was finally ordained in 2013 at First Baptist Church in Valley View.

Bill was a member of the Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution, The American Legion, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Oklahoma State Board of Professional Engineers. He wrote and published a book on the Dareing/Steer family history in 2003 and continued his writing with another 12 unpublished volumes of "Bits and Pieces".

He is survived by his son, Bruce Dareing of Navasota, Texas, his brother Don Dareing, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Dareing, his daughter Patti Brunet, and his brother Joe Dareing.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM, at The First Baptist Church of Valley View, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM at the Church. Internment will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Valley View, Texas.
