Billy John McDonald 64 of Denton passed away on June 25, 2014 in hi home surrounded by his loved ones.
Visitation will be Friday, June 27, 2014 from 6-8 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors, Denton, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Cooper Creek Cemetery in Denton, Texas.
He is survived by his wife Darline McDonald; daughter, Chela Marie Smith and husband Heath of China Spring, TX; son, Cliff McDonald and wife Heather of Aubrey, TX; and grandchildren, Colt Smith, Tucker McDonald, and Maddison McDonald.
Billy "John" McDonald was born to the late John Minis and Barbara McDonald of Decatur, Texas on December 6, 1950. John graduated from Decatur High School in 1968 and went on to receive his BA in Business from North Texas State University, Denton, Texas. He was married to Darline McDonlad on November 22, 1969; they have been married 44 years and reside in Denton, Texas. John was in material management until he retired in 2012 from Peterbuilt Motor Company.
He was an avid football player and fan. He played football at Decatur High from 1964-1968, Henderson Community College from 1968-1969, and at NTSU from 1969-1974. He had a love for working with his children and being a part of their activities. He was a coach in DYFA from 1987-1993 and was awarded The Most Winning Coach each year. He served as Denton High Bronco Band Booster from 1990-1994, Athletic Booster Club member and president for Ryan High from 1994-1999. He also served as a 4H leader for four years, FFA leader and supporter for eight years, and was part of the Mayhill Cooper Creek Volunteer Fire Department from 1977-1982 where he was Captain from 1979-1982.
