Obituary

Billy Jack Normile was born August 14, 1942 to Joseph and Willie Normile in Denton, Texas. He had a happy, busy childhood with many friends. He gained an appreciation for music at an early age, spending time with the Denton Civic Boys Choir and studying classical piano. He also formed many fond memories as a child hanging out at his father's service station. He went to college at North Texas State University, earning a bachelors and masters degree. His participation in ROTC led him to the United States Air Force, where he served as a 1st Lieutenant and Captain during the Vietnam conflict.

He married his wife Janice Routt in 1967. Together they would raise three children in Denton. He had a 27-year career as an art teacher, serving also as a tennis coach for 7 of those years at Denton and Ryan High Schools. He touched the lives of countless young people. He also taught adult Sunday School focused on the writings of C.S. Lewis.

He is survived by his wife Janice, children Jennifer, Scott, and Blake; grandchildren Luke, Samantha, and Emma; and son-in-law Charles and daughter-in-law Jennifer.

Whether you knew him as Billy Jack, Billy, BJ, Mr. Normile, Coach, Dad, Grandad or Gugga, he was always ready with a joke and a hug for all who knew him. He will be missed.
