Obituary

Billy Gene Young passed away on July 12, 2021 in Argyle, Texas.  He was born in Mineola, Texas on March 23,1930, to Albert Johnson Young and Vera Whitehead.  Billy married Verna Hobin on July 18,1953 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas, and would be married 68 years this Sunday.

Billy is survived by his beloved bride Verna Young and they have two daughters, Joann Worley (Joe), of Monroe, Louisiana, and Kathy Yoder (David), of Argyle, Texas.  Grandchildren include Joseph Simmons Worley III (Allene) of Monroe, Louisiana, Michael Worley (Eliza) of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Ashely Claire Allen (Jonathan) of Argyle, Texas.  Great grandchildren are Joseph Simmons Worley IV and John Thomas Worley, twins Lizzie Jane and Britton Worley and sisters Kennedy and Jesse Allen, numerous nieces and nephews.

After graduating from North Dallas High School, Billy enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served honorably for 20 years and 29 days.  He worked tirelessly as a flight mechanic on C-53 prop planes.   There were 3 incidents of aircraft accidents, one of the most memorable being when a vulture flew directly into the windshield of the aircraft on landing.  There were thankfully no significant injuries.  During those 20 years' time, he had the opportunity to travel to over 60 different countries.  The entire family was stationed in Vicenza, Italy for 6 years before returning to the United States.

After retiring from the Air Force, Billy continued working for the Federal Government as an IRS agent for another 23 years.  Upon that retirement in 1993,  and a total of 43 years with the Government, Billy and Verna moved to Dallas where they lived for the next 14 years.

In 2007, they moved to Argyle, Texas to be closer to their daughter and son in law and granddaughter. This time brought the birth of several great grandchildren.

Billy enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cooking until his vision no longer allowed him to take part in these activities.

Billy was a convert to the Catholic Church and absolutely loved the faith, his family, and his friends.  We will miss him deeply but know that he is at peace and his memory will forever be a blessing to his family.
