IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bobby Ray
Mitchell
March 19, 1930 – March 19, 2021
Bobby Ray Mitchell, 91, passed away on his birthday, March 19th, 2021 in Denton. Bob was born in Arnett, Oklahoma. As a boy, he and his family moved to Krum, Texas where he attended school. Over the years, he stayed in touch with many friends there. Bob was a natural storyteller and he loved to reminisce and tell stories of his early years.
As a young man, he enlisted in the army. During this time, he traveled oversees to countries such as Germany. He had many memories of that time and if Bob knew you had a connection to Germany, it wasn't uncommon to hear him use a bit of his German he learned while in the service. Lucky for him, we didn't know whether it was accurate or not.
Once he returned from the army, he met a young lady from Azle, Texas, attending Texas Woman's College, Virginia Corine Gilley. They were married on her parent's porch on June 2, 1954. They had 2 children, Virgil and Bobette that were his pride and joy.
For many years Bob worked for Sears as a serviceman and eventually started his own appliance repair business. He was a hard worker and had a strong work ethic.
Bob was a craftsman and talented woodworker. It was not uncommon for him to help one of his brothers build a house or find him hand carving wooden figurines or building rocking horses for family and friends.
Bob was proud of his family and a compassionate caretaker.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Corine Mitchell, his son, Virgil Ray Mitchell (and wife, Mary), his daughter, Bobette Jarrell (and husband, Curt), a granddaughter, Sarah Last (and husband, Jim), a grandson, Justin Jarrell (and wife, Angela) and a granddaughter, Erin Jarrell. He also is survived by 4 great grandchildren, Parker and Jaxson Last and Jase and Clint Jarrell. His parents, Mabel and Willis Mitchell preceded him in death, as well as his 11 brothers and sisters.
A graveside service will be held at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for those seeking to remember and honor Bob consider a gift to Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home in Denton or a charity of their choice.
