Burtis Leola McKinney, 99, of Krum, Texas passed away on November 5, 2021 in Denton, Texas. She was born on November 30, 1921 in Alvord, Texas, one of twelve siblings born to Newton and Mary (Parsons) Sipes.

She married Edgar Eugene "Ned" McKinney on August 9, 1937 in Denton, TX. As custom harvesters, she traveled with Ned and did all the cooking for the harvest crews. She played the guitar, wrote songs, sang at funerals and church services, and was a beautician. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cooked many after-church Sunday meals for family. She was known for her wonderful pies.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Carol Jones of Krum; son Jerl Davis McKinney and wife Teresa of Ft. Worth and son Marshall Ray McKinney of Silver Cliff, CO; granddaughters Lisa Jessie and husband Mike of Coppell, Jana McKinney Porter of McKinney, and Jennifer Trammell and husband Mike of Ft. Worth; grandsons Mike Boyd of Denton, Jerl McKinney and wife Cathy of Kiowa, CO, James McKinney and wife Candi of Willow Park, Forrest McKinney of Tel Aviv, Israel, and Alan Pitt of Brooklyn, NY; one sister Melba Jo Siegmund of Fort Stockton; and numerous treasured great- and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned, grandson, Marshall Don Boyd, granddaughter, Carol Elena Boyd, five sisters and five brothers, and her mother and father.

The body will be available for viewing on Monday, November 8, 2021 from 10:30-11:30 AM at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas. A graveside service will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas starting at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jay Smith, of New Life First Baptist Church of Krum, officiating. Family and friends are invited to New Life First Baptist Church in Krum afterwards for a light lunch and fellowship.
