IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carmen Dohne
Calderon
May 16, 1968 – February 12, 2021
Carmen "Carmencita" Antonia Calderon was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world unexpectedly after a grueling battle with COVID-19 on February 12, 2021, age 52, in Denton, TX.
Carmen was born in Rio Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 16, 1968 to Judith Vila and Hector Dohne. She attended Rio Piedras Heights and had many friends to converse with. Carmen was a social butterfly, a chattery woman that had no issues making connections with anyone she met, including her would-be husband, Harold Calderon. As a young adult, Carmen had an affinity for adventure and that led her to compete in a bicycling tournament. She attended this event with her brother who introduced her to another competitor; Harold. It was love at first sight. Though they were only seventeen at the time, they both knew this was meant to be and were married soon after in 1986. Both Carmen and Harold shared a love for their home island, 80's esthetics, sports, and traveling the world. These interests were subsequently passed down to their children; Rochelle, Valerie and Andrew.
Carmen was a young mother, but was always front and center for her children. No matter what they needed, she made it happen. She battled many health issues, but she fought against them courageously and always had a smile on her face. Carrying the weight of the world and protecting her family was a skill she excelled at...flawlessly. As a child, her goal was to become "Wonder Woman," and she proved to be a hero everyday.
Carmen was not only a superhero, but was a jack of all trades. She was a profound cook, went to college -- achieving many skills in the medical field, enjoyed bodybuilding , and eventually became a grandmother of five. Everything she did, she did for the family. She had so much love for every single one of her kids, her grandchildren, and even her beloved chihuahua, Paco. Her heart was genuinely one of a kind and our Lord definitely knew just how special she was. She taught her children to hold on to their faith and to never let the struggles and difficulties of life get in the way of living their best lives.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-five years, Harold, their three children, and five grandchildren. At this time, Carmen will bid farewell to family and friends that reside in Texas and upon her last wishes, she will ultimately be laid to rest back home on her "island of enchantment," Puerto Rico. Donations can be made to the Richland Hills City Animal Services (Helping Paws of North Texas) as she was adamant on animal adoptions.
Rest in Peace, Our lovely Carmen. You will be missed by everyone you touched.
