Carol Ellen Bangert Hyatt, of Denton passed away on July 31, 2016 in Denton. She was born October 31, 1944 in Long Beach, California to Dorothy Helen Duke and Russell William Bangert.
Carol grew up in Beaumont, Texas surrounded by her mother's large and loving Irish Family. When she was 15 years old she moved to Louisiana to help her ailing grandparents. While there she attended Hyatt High School where she was active in 4-H Club, Future Homemakers of America, basketball and track. Carol was Valedictorian of her 1962 graduating class.
Carol married John Joseph Hyatt, her high school sweetheart, on June 12, 1965 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA.
For the next twenty years Carol raised their daughter, Tracey, as John pursued his Army Career. She enjoyed the adventures and advantages the wife of an Army Officer afforded the family.
Following her husband's retirement from the Army, they moved to Denton in 1985 where Carol decided to fulfill her lifetime dream of becoming a teacher. She graduated with a BS degree in Education from UNT in 1990 and later earned a MA degree in Economics and Entrepreneurship from the University of Delaware. She began her teaching career at Lindsay High School where she taught for 6 years. She later taught at Denton High School until her retirement in 2011.
It was here that Carol developed a passion for teaching economics. Several times she was selected by the students as the "Teacher most Knowledgeable" of the subject taught. In 2007 Carol was named the Texas High School Economics Teacher of the Year. In 2008 she received the Frank Kemmerer Award from the Texas Secondary Principals as the Texas High School Social Studies Teacher of the Year. Additionally, she was one of 12 Teachers to participate in the National Council on Economic Education Russia Study, to share with Russian Teachers, methods and tools for teaching free market economics.While at Denton High, Carol was also Advisor to the National Honor Society and UIL Academics Coordinator.
A woman of many talents and interests, Carol was a member of the Denton Benefit League, American Association of University Women and she also served as a president of the Denton Quilt Guild and refinished and sold antique furniture at her booth on the Denton Square.
Most of all Carol was proudest of her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years; daughter, Tracey Moulden of Denton; mother, Dorothy Johnson of Lockhart, TX; sister, Mary Martin Jorgensen of Austin; grandson, Travis Moulden of Denton; granddaughter Rachel Schultz and husband Riley; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Isla Schultz all of Oklahoma, City.
The family will receive friends at DeBerry Funeral Directors on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 6-7. A Rosary will be said from 7-8P.M. Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton with interment to follow at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
