Ava "Carolyn" Cox of Denton peacefully passed away May 4, 2017.  Carolyn was born on May 10, 1931.  She attended the University of North Texas and received a Bachelor degree in Education.  She was well known around Denton for her beauty and style.  Carolyn loved fashion and always wore a hat and carried a matching purse to match her outfit of the day.  Carolyn enjoyed traveling, dancing and gardening.  She was also a huge fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.  Carolyn was quite the conversationalist and met friends wherever she went.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her first husband Brian Matthews; her daughter Martha Jayne Matthews Bliss; and her late husband Lucius L. Cox, Jr.   Carolyn is survived Ken Cox and wife, Trudy, and Tricia Cox Harris and husband, Jonathan.  She is also survived by grandchildren Katie, Courtney, Zachery, Amanda, Allison and Avery.

The family would like to thank the employees of Grandbrook Memory Care in Grapevine and Anchor of Hope Hospice for taking such great care of Carolyn the last few months of her life.
