Catherine Sue “McCullough” Mitchell, of Krum, Texas passed peacefully on February 23, 2026, weeks before her 95th birthday.
Catherine was born on April 13, 1931, in Hearne, Texas, to parents Welty and Susie McCullough and was the youngest and last surviving of 7 children. She grew up on her family farm in Wheelock, Texas where she attended Franklin High School, standing out as an excellent student and even better tennis player. She went on to attend Texas State Women’s College, now TWU, in Denton, Texas, studying history, participating in the Rosebud Court, graduating Class of 1948, and perhaps most importantly meeting and marrying her husband, Jack on July 1, 1951. Jack and Catherine went on to raise their family in Denton, Tx where they were prominent business owners, pillars of their community and members of First Baptist Church in Denton for over 50 years.
Our hearts are broken but comforted knowing Catherine has reunited with her husband of over 75 years, MF “Jack” Mitchell, whom she had missed dearly since September 16, 2004, as well as her only son Melvin Jack Mitchell, passed on August 7, 2020.
She is survived by her three loving daughters and their spouses Gina Wilkes, Susan and Herb Williams and Cheryl and Tony Rose, her grandchildren, Melvin’s children: Lisa Hartin and Amy Barton, Gina’s children: Jason Waller, Jerrod Waller, Alexandra Wilkes and Dustin Wilkes, Susan’s children: Bert Williams, Amanda Hill and Jake Williams, and Cheryl’s children: Justin Rose and Mitchell Rose, and dozens of great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Our Nana leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and family. She is now at peace, reunited with the love of her life.
