Cecil Short

A Life Well Lived

April 23, 1934 to November 21, 2023

Cecil was born in Vernon, Texas on April 23, 1934 to parents Lester and Swanee Short.

He spent his childhood in the Northside Community, graduating from Northside School in 1951.  After graduation, he attended Draughn's Business School before joining the U.S. Army and serving in Korea until 1956.

He married Lura Joyce Rowland in Vernon in 1956.  After six years of marriage, they welcomed one daughter, Lisa, into their life in 1962.

Cecil worked for Texaco for 33 years, mostly in Electra and Gainesville, Texas.  After retirement, he farmed full time in the Northside Community for 12 years.  During this time, he also enjoyed serving as a mentor with the Texas Youth Commission Prison Program for juvenile boys.

In 2003, Cecil and Lura Joyce moved to the Denton/Corinth area to be close to Lisa and their only grandchild, Noah who was three years old.  He cherished the opportunity to watch Noah grow up and pursue and realize his lifelong passion to become a golf tour professional.

Cecil is survived by Lura Joyce, his wife of 67 years, daughter Lisa Goodwin, Lisa's husband Jeff Goodwin, and his grandson, Noah.  During his time in Vernon, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church there.  He was currently a member of Southmont Baptist Church and the Adult 3 Sunday School Class.

Throughout his life, Cecil made many friends in everything he did, whether it was serving together on a common project or going to get coffee before attending an estate sale.  We know he is with his Lord and will miss his loving spirit here on earth until we see him in Heaven!  The family thanks all of our extended family and friends for your thoughts and prayers.
