IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cecilia Sue
Hoke
November 27, 1927 – May 16, 2022
Sue (Meemaw) was born in Denton Texas on November 27,1927 to Cecil B. Garner and Dorothy Dunham Garner. Sue was raised in Denton Texas, lived in Dallas Texas for a time, and enjoyed good times in her early life. Sue was preceded in death by her husband Roy Nelson Hoke Sr., her parents Dorothy and Cecil, sister Sunny Garner Hayes, and niece Patricia Gay Blalock.
Sue is survived by her four sons and their spouses, Nelson & Tamara, Mark & Martha, Lance, Scott & Darlene: her grandchildren Jason, Marcie, Lacinda, Sabrina, Neal, Colton, Sage, Katlin, 15 great grandchildren, Logan, Brooklyn, Benjamin, Caleb, Emily, Blain, Shelby, Jaida, Eli, Sarah Marcella, Abigail, Noah, Rose, Andrew, and Thomas, one great-great grandchild Braylynn and lots of nieces and nephews.
Mother and Dad lived on Anna Street in Denton Texas when her first two sons, Nelson and Mark were born. They moved to Haltom City, Texas in the 1950s where Nelson started the first grade and her third son, Lance was born. In 1959 they moved to Roanoke, Texas where they bought a farm to raise the family. Their fourth son, Scott, was born when they lived on the farm.
They both had ideas to prosper and help within the town of Roanoke. Sue helped Roy become baseball coach of Roanoke Little League & Pony League. She helped Roy run for school board of Northwest Independent School District and City Council in Roanoke, Texas. She also worked and helped Roy to become Mayor ProTem of Roanoke, Texas.
Sue was a strong and determined lady. When she saw something that needed to be done for the family or the community, she took the bull by the horns and started work. She worked many city, state, and national elections as a poll monitor. One of Sue's greatest accomplishments for the community of Roanoke was the founding of the Roanoke Public Library. She along with other ladies of the town worked hard to get donations and held numerous bake sales to raise money for the library. A couple of months back Sue contacted the Roanoke Mayor to have the dedication plaque with her name along with the other ladies' names rehung in the new Roanoke Library. She was also was instrumental in helping establish the Roanoke Community Center and was vigilant in seeing that the new Ball Park in Roanoke were dedicated with a plaque for the people, Roy Hoke and Ina Knowles, who started the leagues years ago.
Sue lived in Roanoke for 40 years with Roy doing what the Lord wanted them to do raising their sons and taking care of grandchildren when needed. She loved music and enjoyed listening to her sons play music. Occasionally they would play Elvis tunes for her, and she would dance. In her 80s she took Line and Square dance lessons and was better at it than most young people.
In the year 2000 Sue moved from Roanoke to a ranch in Denton, Texas; our dad did not make it there with her.
Sue joined the United Methodist Church of Roanoke in 1959 and was a member there until 2000, when she transferred her membership to the Cooper Creek Church in Denton Texas.
Sue lived on the ranch until 2022. Sue was a strong fighter to the end. We can say that she finished her race on this earth with the Lord and the Lord brought her home to heaven Monday evening May 16, 2022.
