IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlene “Marney”
Townsend
August 22, 1936 – February 10, 2018
On February 10 th , 2018, Charlene took the magical journey to reunite with her one true love. This was a special event over 16 years in the making, and the heavens opened up in celebration of this beautiful homecoming.
Opal Charlene Alexander was born on August 22, 1936, to Charles and Violet Alexander, the 4 th of their 5 children.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert Townsend, her children, Tamera Faulkner, Wayne Townsend, Tony Townsend, and Kathy Johnson, and her siblings, Bob Alexander, Kathleen Haren, and Jane Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa DeMore of Denton, her sister, Nancy Millichamp of Denton, 3 nieces and 1 nephew, 17 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. "Not bad for a little girl from Crossroads, TX," as Charlene would often say.
Marney, as she was dubbed by her grandchildren, spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. If you were ever lucky enough to spend time with her as a child, chances are that you secretly wished that she was your mother. She dedicated herself to caring for everybody around her, never wanting nor accepting anything in return. She was very stubborn in that way.
Marney was an ace baker. Her angel food and lemon pound cakes were famous and always requested throughout Denton County, even from those who never personally knew her. When are you brining in some more "Marney cake?" her family's coworkers would ask weekly. She mastered the art of winning at Wa-Hoo, even if there was sometimes a little cheating involved, as suspected by her grandchildren. The case against her could never be officially proven, but the evidence was overwhelming.
Visitation will be held at DeBerry Funeral Home on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be at DeBerry Funeral Home on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM, immediately followed by a procession to Roselawn Memorial Park.
Marney will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but she also filled their hearts so fully with love, that all are happy just to have had the chance to know her. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
