Charles Jack Cross, Sr., 92 of Denton, TX passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2017. Born February 12, 1925 in Freeport, Illinois to Charles H. and Wilma Ickes Cross.

He was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling Jim Cross.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jo Henderson Cross, and his three sons, Jack Cross Jr. and wife Denise of San Antonio, TX, Steve Cross and wife Helena of Stillwater, OK and David Cross of Denton. Six grandchildren, Lauren Cross and husband Brian Reed, Creagh Cross and girlfriend, Shelby Day. Truitt Cross and wife Shelby, Kelli Eytcheson and husband Caleb, Kaitlyn Cross and Joshua Cross and four great grandchildren, Kenadee, Covin and Quincy Cross and Ava Eytcheson.

Jack began his education at the University of Arkansas laboratory school starting in kindergarten and continuing there through elementary, high school and college graduating with his Doctorate in Secondary Education in 1955. After his first year of college, he served three years in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

In 1955 Jack joined the faculty at North Texas State Teachers College (UNT) as a Professor of Secondary Education later serving as Chairman of the Division of Secondary and Elementary Education and being elected the first President of the University's Faculty Senate. He retired from the University in 1987.

Jack was very active in numerous civic and charitable organizations including serving as President of the Denton Rotary Club and on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, and a member and Deacon at Southmont Baptist Church.

His retirement years were spent traveling with his wife, spending time and golfing with friends in Denton and at the family summer home in Bella Vista, Arkansas, following the Arkansas Razorbacks and most of all working in his yard and spending precious time with his grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Southmount Baptist Church in Denton on Thursday, May 18 at 2:00 P.M.
