Obituary

Charles Edwin Hopkins passed away at his home on November 6, 2022. He was born in Sanger, TX on April 27, 1934 to Ernest William Hopkins and Lillie Mae (Landers) Hopkins.

Charles was known as Dad, Chas, Granddaddy, G-Daddy, Charlie, Charles, Hop and Hopper. He grew up in Denton and graduated from Denton High School. He was a member of St. John Paul II in Denton, TX. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, a Master of Education and a Master of Industrial Arts, from the University of North Texas. He was a member of the Air force ROTC. He was an avid golfer and won numerous championships throughout his life. He also loved to race boats.

He was a schoolteacher in Post, TX where he taught shop, drafting and coached golf. He moved to Denton to take over his father's custom home building business in Denton and formed "Hopkins Homes." He built several hundred homes in the area.

He had a passion for his community and his building career. He served on the Denton City Council from May 1980 until April 1981, and April 1982 until June 1986. He served as Mayor pro tem of Denton and served on numerous subcommittees. He pioneered energy homes in the area and was the national director of the Solar Energy Association and HAB. He served as the Exalted Ruler of the Denton Elks Lodge and was a 4 th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Brenda Hopkins, his two children with his first wife Carolyn Long Hopkins, Rodney "Hoppy" Hopkins and Charla Bradshaw, his son-in-law Rick Hagen, his sisters-in-law Janie Beyer, Carolyn Pickle, and Patricia Beyer, his brothers-in-law Gary Beyer and Charlie Pickle, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and Benny Ramirez who was like a son to him.

Rosary, Liturgy and Visitation will be held at St. John Paul II church at 909 McCormick Str., Denton, TX 76201 on November 10, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. https://youtu.be/LO1jAHDK49c . Parking is very limited.

A Memorial Mass will be held on November 11, 2022 at St. John Paul II church with Father Kyle Walterscheid officiating followed by lunch at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1700 Riney Road, Denton, TX 76207. Livestream link for the mass is https://youtu.be/9J8NtQNF6gw .

Parking is very limited. There will be two shuttles from the Knights of Columbus on November 11, 2022: 8:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

An inurnment will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton at a later date.
