Charles Jefferson Melvin passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022. He was born in Chicago, IL to Charles and Ruby Melvin on November 5, 1950. He grew up in Carlsbad, New Mexico and graduated from Carlsbad High School, a true Carlsbad Caveman. He met the love of his life, Mary, at Guadalupe Christian Camp. They were married in December of 1969 at First Christian Church of Hobbs where Jeff later served as an elder. They married and had three wonderful children, Kris, Kori, and Charles (Chip). Jeff worked as a truck driver, diesel mechanic, and detention officer. He went back to school and earned his degree to become a probation and parole officer. Jeff retired from New Mexico Probation and Parole. Grandchildren brought Jeff and Mary to Texas in 2016.  Jeff loved Jesus and his family. It brought him great joy to spend time with those he loved. He enjoyed praising the Lord, spending time with family, fishing with his favorite people, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and seeing his grandkids grow up.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved brother, Marty Melvin, and beloved brother-in-law, Jack Wisdom.

Jeff is survived by his wife Mary and his children, son Kris (Kristi) Melvin, daughter Kori (Tim) Guinnee, and Charles, Jr., lovingly called Chip, sister, Mindy Melvin, brother Jaime (Gina) Melvin, brother Scott (Jennifer) Melvin, brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Jeannie Sparks, sister-in-law, Rita Wisdom, aunt, Ona Hause, grandchildren Mackenzie, Kaleb, Owen, Keaton, Elli, Finn, Bailey and Duncan, the greatest nieces and nephews, and many adopted family members, all whom he loved dearly.

A celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Friday, August 19th at 4:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church in Denton, TX. Family and friends are invited to join us after the service in the fellowship hall. The service will also be live streamed.
