IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Edward
Murphy
October 20, 1948 – June 20, 2024
Charles "Dr. Chuck" Edward Murphy, passed from this plane on June 20, 2024 at 5:20pm.
Dr. Chuck was born October 20, 1948 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee to Robert Louis and Marie Theresa (nee Terkats) Murphy. Chuck and his younger brother, John, would grow up on Marine Corps bases around the United States. His father's military service was very influential on Chuck and soon after high school he joined the Marine Corps, like his father. He was very proud of his service in the Corps and used the values he learned as a soldier to shape his life.
While in high school, Chuck wanted to play drums. He asked his parents for drum lessons. They decided he should first learn to play the accordion. Chuck really wanted to play drums, so he conceded and learned the accordion. However, he did play drums and eventually formed a band with his high school friends called ''The Penetrations." They played at various locations around Dallas including LuAnn's and Panther Hall!
It was while in high school that he met his first wife, Sharon Kulbanski. They married in 1969 and welcomed their son Jason Neil Murphy in 1973 and daughter Valerie Colleen in 1975. The marriage ended in 1995.
Chuck's musical interest did not stop there! While attending community college, he began working at KRLD and after completing his enlistment in the Marines, he began working at two of the hottest radio stations in the DFW area, KLIF and KVIL. After becoming the Programming Director at KVIL, Chuck and his partner, Steve Arnold began a recording studio in Garland called Santa Claus Studios. Eventually, Chuck went his own way and started another voice over and recording studio – Chuck Murphy Productions in Richardson. He was the voice of various TV stations across the U.S., many Automotive Dealers, and for a long period, the voice of Kroger Food Stores in Texas and Louisiana.
In the early 90s, Chuck met his business partner, Sunnie and together, they created the number one computer bulletin board system in the DFW area. Eventually she became a part of Chuck Murphy Productions which changed its name to Dream Gift Media.
Almost like a fairy tale, Chuck and Sunnie fell in love and were married in 1998. Sunnie's children, Andrew, Matthew, and Liz were soon adopted by Chuck and along with Jason and Valerie, they became a family of 7!
Life continued on and Chuck and Sunnie began studying for their bachelor's degrees and in 2006, became Ministers of the Unity of Richardson Church. It was also during this period that they became business partners with Dennis Longbotham (an old friend of Chuck's) and opened The Spiritual Fitness Center where many were assisted in learning about their spiritual gifts. Chuck also became a very gifted counselor and in 2019, at the age of 71, Chuck earned his Doctor of Philosophy, PhD specializing in Parapsychology from the University of Sedona.
Chuck never retired from "working." He did retire from the broadcasting/recording business, but he continued counseling and assisting others with connecting with their spirituality until the last five months of his life. He told his wife that he was going to die, he was just going to wear his body out and that is what he did. On June 20th, Chuck returned home from the hospital, and after an hour and a half, he passed away very peacefully with Sunnie rubbing his arm and telling him that she loved him. And while Sunnie and the children's hearts are broken, knowing that he is at peace and no longer in pain – and yes, he did wear that body out!
