IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charline Scripture
Rodgers
July 4, 1929 – January 7, 2021
Charline Scripture was born July 4, 1929 to Charlie and Addie Scripture in Plain Dealing, LA. The family moved to Denton, TX when she was a small child. Horses and swimming were childhood favorite pastimes. She was a proud graduate of the North Texas Teacher's College Demonstration School. After high school graduation, she met James (Jim) Rodgers. They married Sept. 7, 1946. Jim was a career Air Force officer. Mrs. Rodgers was a devoted Air Force wife, making a home in many states and a foreign country.
The family made a permanent move to Denton after Jim's retirement. Charline was active in their children's lives and her church. Dinner was a must at the Rodgers home. Many teens became honorary family members at the family dinner table.
Early widowhood brought a new dimension to her life. She was very active in the Single Adult's Sunday School Department at First Baptist Church, Denton. Special friendships were formed and she learned to move forward. She enjoyed travel, game nights, Senior Center dances, and painting.
Mrs. Rodgers's later life was marked with caring for many who were sick or had suffered loss. She took meals to countless friends. Her most heroic caring was for her eldest daughter, LeAnn who had early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Rodgers was a fierce advocate for LeAnn and cared for her selflessly.
As Mrs. Rodgers's health began to decline, she became the object of family care. Although she did not want to ever leave Denton, she moved to a care facility in Carrollton, TX to be close to her son John. Mrs. Rodgers died January 7, 2021 in Carrollton.
Mrs. Rodgers is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James, and her daughter, LeAnn. She is survived by two sons; John C. (Teresa) of Carrollton, TX, and James S Rodgers III (Christy) of Denton; one daughter, Janice (Warren) Hansen of Andover, KS; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
