Obituary

Clarence William Brandt was born on October 7, 1921, to Rosie Blank Brandt and Bruno Brandt in Boerne, Texas.  He lived just outside of Boerne, Texas during his childhood years. At an early age he began trapping animals to sell the pelts to make money for himself and his family.   He finished 8 years of schooling, then at 14 years old, he moved into town to work at a dairy.  He eventually became a carpenter and worked in San Antonio.  He served in the U S Army AF Emergency Rescue & Boat Squadron from   1942 to 1946 .  While in the service, he volunteered to work as a cook.  He said he found out that was the only way to be well-fed.  He later served on a PT boat in the Philippines.   He married Dorothy Tarrillion on October 2, 1943.   After the war, he returned to San Antonio and worked as a carpenter.  He later went to work for the Veterans Administration as an appraiser and gradually worked his way up to Officer in Charge of the VA in San Antonio where he remained until he retired in 1982.    Upon retirement, Clarence and Dorothy moved to Kerrville.  They enjoyed many happy years there and made many wonderful friends.  They had the opportunity to travel and explore many different places during their retirement years.  After Dorothy passed away in 2010, Clarence lived in the Dallas area, Colorado, and a few months in Mexico.

Through his hard work, he achieved a very successful career.  He was proud of what he had achieved with such limited formal education.

He had a very outgoing personality and seemed to easily make friends wherever he went.

At different points in his life, he enjoyed his favorite hobbies of hunting, fishing, golf,  and playing dominos, poker, pinochle, and  bridge.

His is survived by his daughters Bonnie Shrall (John) and Dottie Alexander (Wayne).  He leaves behind his grandchildren Chris McNamara, Ben McNamara (Nicole), Jeremy McNamara (Renee), Ryan Alexander (Collin) and Laurel Alexander.  He was predeceased by grandson Nick McNamara.  He is survived by nine great grandchildren:  Jacob McNamara Larson, Connor, McNamara, Nathan McNamara, Amanda McNamara, Matthew McNamara, Lydia McNamara, Maude McNamara, Jordan McNamara, and Grayson Alexander.   He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Clarence lived a long, full life, passing away on April 8, 2021, at the age of 99 ½,  almost to the day.  He will be missed by the family that he leaves behind.  May he rest in peace.
