Connie Ann Thornton
March 15, 1953 – April 2, 2025
Connie Ann Thornton, of Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 15, 1953, Connie lived a life full of warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by her beloved mother Jean Rutherford, her sister, Cindy Kent; her devoted husband Dave Thornton, and their four children: Kim Burns (Pat), Carly Hensley (Mark), Alex Thornton (Halie), and Drake Thornton (Jenna).
Connie was a proud and loving Nana to her ten grandchildren: Jackson Burns, Olivia Burns, Addison Thornton, Sydney Hensley, Elizabeth Burns, Caden Thornton, Case Thornton, Easton Hensley, Hunter Thornton, and Emerson Thornton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Rutherford.
Before raising their family, Connie worked as a paralegal and proudly supported Dave while he completed his degree at the University of Texas. They cherished their time together in Austin—filled with friends, camping trips, and carefree days that became some of their favorite memories.
From there, they moved to Abilene, where Dave served as a deacon at Highland Church of Christ, and where all four of their children were born.
In the late 1980s, work brought them to the North Texas area, and they eventually settled in Denton—in the home where they've lived for over 30 years. That house became a place filled with love, laughter, and the kind of memories that span generations.
After moving to Denton, they became members at Singing Oaks Church of Christ, where Connie served as the church secretary for over ten years. Later, they joined Denton Bible Church, and Connie took a position in the front office at Ryan High School—where Kim and Carly also worked, and Alex and Drake were students. It was one of those unique seasons of life where family, faith, and school all came together in a way that was both cool and a little funny.
Connie eventually retired in 2018 as an executive assistant at the Denton ISD main administration building. She was proud to serve the district and was loved by her coworkers for her warmth, professionalism, and ability to make even the busiest days a little brighter.
She had a deep love for animals—especially dogs—and supported the ASPCA throughout her life. She found joy in gardening, long walks on the beach collecting shells, and settling in with a good book, a sunny spot, and an ice-cold Dr. Pepper—her favorite companion for beach days and everyday moments alike.
When they weren't at the beach, they enjoyed getting out on the boat at Lake Ray Roberts—Dave with a fishing rod, Connie soaking up the sun. It was quiet, joyful time together, and a reflection of how they loved life side by side.
Her loud laugh, generous spirit, and deep kindness will be remembered always. Connie leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and everyday magic.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Denton Bible Church in Denton, Texas. All are welcome to attend.
All service arrangements are being handled by DeBerry Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the
