Dr. Conrad Kinard, born on September 14, 1923 in Griffin, Georgia passed away on February 19, 2015 at home with family present. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bette Jacqueline Zwicker Kinard; daughter Melinda Kinard and her two children: Nate Kinard Byerley and Marche Kinard Byerley; daughter Gina Kinard and her three children: Jordis Juren, Colin Juren and Katie Rodgers; daughter Leslie Rives, son in law Tim Rives and their three children Kyle Rives, Michael Rives and Amy Kemp; son Konrad Kinard and his two children, Lola and Taro. In addition, 9 great-grandchildren bless his life.
Conrad studied engineering while attending Georgia Tech, in Atlanta, GA. and earned his M.D. at the Emory University School of Medicine in 1949.
Conrad served the medical community faithfully in Denton, Texas from 1953-1990 specializing in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He was the first Board Certified Internist to practice medicine in Denton. At the University Oklahoma School of Medicine he made contributions to Medical Literature specifically "The Zero Potential of the Electrical Field Produced by the Heart" published in 1954.
His affiliations and professional organizations in the medical community and beyond are impressive and, including Denton County Medical Society, American College of Physicians, Texas Club of Internists all while being affiliated at Westgate Hospital, in Denton which he co-founded in 1972.
While serving his country in the USAF, from 1943-1944, he developed pulmonary tuberculosis and spent over 18 months in the hospital. This is where he changed his career path from engineering to medicine as he seized the opportunity to immerse himself into medical literature available to him at that time.
His reputation for treating his patients with loving kindness and respect was awesome and so appreciated by the lives he touched. He was known for his 'bedside manner' as he often focused on the terminally ill who needed an encouraging word which produced hope in their lives.
The Memorial Service will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Tuesday February 24, 2015 at Cole Chapel, 201 S Locust Street in Denton with Jim Porter officiating.
