Obituary

Cullen "Nelson" Perry Jr. P.E., born on September 18, 1946, in Brownwood Texas, passed away on September 30, 2024, in Lake Dallas, Texas, at the age of 78. He was the beloved son of Cullen Nelson Sr. and Martha Perry who were blessed Parents to have created such a man. The universe cannot replace a Cullen Nelson Perry Jr. There will never be enough words to sum up his genuine soul. He was brilliant, kind-hearted, often humorous and loved to live. He would go out of his way to brighten anyone's day. The world is now a darker place with the loss of Cullen Nelson Perry Jr..


Nelson was a student athlete and graduate of Santa Anna High School. He played football for San Angelo State before pursuing a career in Engineering. He transferred to Texas Tech University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He soon became a certified Professional Engineer for the state of Texas, stamping his name on the plans dozens of Power Plants and mastered the art of design in the Power Industry. Nelson retired with a formidable and legendary reputation.


Nelson's dedication to family was a priority despite the demand of his professional career and aside from being a loving, attentive father, Nelson coached his son's baseball teams. He was an accomplished baseball coach from winning recreational championships, coaching several All-Star teams and developing talented ball players from scratch. He would jog miles to the field before managing well organized work outs and then pitch batting practice to the whole team. Nelson would emphasize good attitude, selflessness and smiles. Nelson was a coach even his opponents wanted to play for.

Nelson also had an interest in restoring automobiles for most of his life. His mechanical aptitude and meticulousness made him a gifted mechanic. Growing up he rebuilt numerous muscle cars well known by the local authorities, but was able to stay out of trouble. Nelson lived a full, happy life. He married his childhood friend and grade school crush, Bobbie Lee Niell and they were married 57 years.

Nelson would pass on a happy son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, leaving behind a large loving family full of close relationships.
Nelson is survived by his wife Bobbie Lee Perry, daughter Shelly Mayo, sons Jody Perry, Ryan Perry & Zachary Perry, grandsons Aaren Perry, Jackson Mayo, Carson Perry & Connor Perry, granddaughters Laken Perry, Brandi Underwood, Reese Perry, Brielle Perry, Camdyn Perry & Presley Perry, great granddaughters Lilly McCarty & Julia Mayo, and great grandsons Braxton Underwood & Finn Moore.
